New metal roof for a front porch

The existing roof was an old flat seam tin metal roof that had rusted through in a few spots- there was really no saving it. Since the material is no longer being manufactured my client was looking at other options but wasn’t finding anything that would match the upper roof. [Read more…]
Curved standing seam copper roofing
These standing seam copper accent roofs were completed last week. To start the job I made a pattern of the curve or radius of the roofs and drew that same curve on my shop floor. I made up the panels on an ingenious tool called a shrinker, the shrinker gathers the metal in the upstanding panel seams and causes the panel to curve. Working slowly I develop a curve in the standing seam panels to match the line on the shop floor. [Read more…]
Standing seam copper roof in Alexandria, VA
Last month we installed a new standing seam copper roof in Alexandria, VA. This is an addition to the rear of an existing house; which sadly means that once again all my beautiful work is seen by no one except the owner. The low slope roof above it is Firestone TPO in gray; since the low slope roof was built flat we added a slight slope using tapered insulation which will drain the water off. [Read more…]
